How to reupholster your own foam backed headliner.

First what you want to do is remove your visors. Then you need to remove the dome light if it is located in the headliner. Then you need to look at all the trim that is holding the headliner shell up and remove it all as well. Once that is done you can then pull down the headliner shell. Be careful not to break the shell when removing it from the car. It often helps if you lay back the front seats completely. Ok now you have the headliner out of the car. Lay it on a flat work area and remove the fabric by pulling it off with your hands. Then you will have a layer of 1/4 foam that has rotted. It is best to remove this with a wire brush by hand. Clean the surface until all the foam is removed and there is a flat surface. Now it is time to apply your new headliner material. Ok now lay out your headliner material on the shell. Make sure it is at least two inches bigger than the shell all the way around it if it is any larger you can cut off the excess. Now place two weights in the center of the headliner and fold the headliner in half so you can now see the back side on the new headliner material and one half of the clean shell. You will now spray 3M contact adhesive over both surfaces. You want a 100% coverage. Wait until the adhesive is tacky to the touch then roll the headliner material over onto the shell surface and push out from the center gently with your hands. Then repeat this process for the other half. Once this is done you can take a razor blade and trim of your extra material.
